We hammered out the tech side of things with Buddy and Bob on Thursday afternoon, sending them away from the W Hotel in San Francisco armed to the teeth with enough in the way of MacBooks, camera gear & attendant mounts on the handlebars of the Piaggio MP3s to film a Quinn Martin production.
The noteworthy bit about the 500cc model is the sheer size of thing (can you believe it is actually an automatic twist n’ go scooter!). When Bob fired his machine up, I was expecting the rumble of a large-displacement inline four motorcycle; what I got was the smooth hum of a four stroke, four-value per cylinder, electronic injection scooter. Then again, a scooter the size of a touring bike with two front wheels that leans far into corners is already a mildly freakish exercise in visual disconnect. Why shouldn’t it be an auditory mind-bender as well?
