Day 11: Buddy & Bob’s Day Report From Fort Collins, CO

Started the day with a 0900hr MT visit to Steve & Roxanne Eddins’ Piaggio dealership in Ft. Collins, CO. Steve & Roxanne, like Chuck & Melanie Barber in Orem, UT are a married couple totally committed to their dealership, motorcycles, scooters and —most of all — their customers. They are another model of a customer focused team. You don’t have to be an organizational psychologist to know here’s a couple who derive enormous satisfaction from building their business. When a reporter asked me to what I attribute my 48 year marriage, my response was shared interests. I predict that Steve & Roxanne have many happy years ahead.

Day 10: Buddy & Bob’s Road Report, Butch Cassidy, Many Pictures & Lincoln’s Bust

Day 10 - Laramie, WY to Fort Collins, CO

After a late arrival in Laramie on Saturday night, as a result of spending several hours with the PBS documentary crew,  we had a drink, managed to stay awake while eating, made it back to the motel and did our blog update in the morning…which resulted in a late start today.

Bob & I typically camp when touring, and the MP3’s back seat is ideal for a bag with all necessary camping gear. Prior to the tour we made the decision to bag the camping so that time would be available for the blog and the media events. It was a tough choice. since camping brings us closer to the environment and intensifies the feeling of having a self-contained world. No one said our 15 minutes of fame would be easy.

Day 9: Another Epic Road Report, Many Pictures & Fleeting Fame For Buddy & Bob On The Lincoln Highway

Day 9 - Rock Springs, WY to Laramie, WY

After leaving our hotel we spent about an hour riding around the old town of Rock Springs, WY. The sky was blue, with a few white puffs and no threat of rain. The temperature was in the 70’s…this was going to be a good day of riding. Heading out of town we found that the old two-lane Lincoln Highway sat about a 100 yards to the South of I-80:

DayMap 8.2: Buddy & Bob Hit Lyman, WY - Determined To Follow Lincoln Highway

Buddy & Bob, utterly determined to follow the Lincoln Highway as closely as possible, forged a path down a series of - according to Bob - some of Wyoming’s worst dirt & gravel roads today. Luckily, the MP3s were as capable on the I-80 legs as on the gorgeous roads seen above. The riders, having finally hit Lyman, WY, continue their hunt even as we speak. Target? Rock Springs…before nightfall.

> Hello, Buddy,
> I just returned from 7 days in Utah and Nevada on my 2006 Harley DYNA LowRider. I met you and Bob on your day 4 along the Lincoln Highway, in Ely, NV, and I sat on the MP3 and got my picture taken.  I just wanted to thank you for introducing yourself and sharing the features and benefits of your Very Cool Mega-Scoot despite having your breakfast interrupted by yet another curious onlooker. Day 6: Utah Press Update & Audio Slideshow

From Salt Lake City, Utah’s Deseret News, who published both the following story and a wonderful slideshow with audio:

OREM — Five days into their journey across the U.S., Buddy Rosenbaum and Bob Chase pulled into town Tuesday night more than four hours behind schedule. That kind of setback could agitate anyone with a point-A-to-point-B mind-set. But for the longtime motorcycle enthusiasts — 72-year-old New Yorker Rosenbaum and 71-year-old Chase of Fremont, Calif. — it’s the journey, not the destination, that counts most.

"It’s the getting there, it’s not the where," Rosenbaum says. "It’s the process, and that’s very enriching."

Day 5: Buddy & Bob’s Road Report

Day 5 - Ely, NV to Orem, UT

Our longest day & we’re impressed at not being wiped out by the heat, distance and media events. Typically we dread interstate roads, but today’s ride went surprisingly well. 160 miles of interstate, 120 miles of barren desert highway, an interview with the Fox Channel in Salt Lake City, a telephone interview with a radio news service, after which we finally showered before enjoying a well-deserved dinner. (MUCH more and pics after the jump.)
