Buddy On Packing For The Road: Life’s Wants vs Needs

Two (and three-wheeled!) travel calls for carrying only essentials, so how to pack for four weeks on a Piaggio MP3 500 which, for this trip, includes an array of electronic gear?

It begins with recognizing the difference between wants and needs. MP3 travel calls for focusing on NEEDS, and that is an enlightening lesson. In our consumer driven society, wants and needs are blurred by the agencies of Madison Avenue. The packing challenge calls for clarity regarding what’s truly essential, so here goes:

Buddy & Bob’s Day 3 Desert Report

Reno to Austin, NV175 miles . The first half of the Highway 50 "survival challenge."

In July 1986, Life Magazine described Nevada’s Highway 50 from Fernley to Ely as "The Loneliest Road In America". Life asserted that there were no attractions or points of interest along the 287-mile stretch of road and recommended that drivers have "survival skills" to travel the route.

Buddy & Bob’s Day 1 Debrief + Start Pictures

Long day. Lots of activity at the Lincoln Highway Terminus: other riders, lots of photos and TV interviews, that we were naive about.  We finally left the city at about 4PM. Hit HEAVY traffic–Davey Johnson (from Piaggio Ground Control - ED) followed in an SUV taking more video for the live feed. We finally arrived in Sacramento at 8PM. Few photo opportunities on our part, but the pros more than made up for that. Davey will be following us into Reno tomorrow taking video. We intend to take some photos and see if we’re successful in getting them to Alex Roy at Ground Control.

From Buddy & Bob

After thirty plus years of worldwide adventure travel on large size (1000cc plus) enduro motorcycles, an alternative experience will be launched today from the Western Terminus of the Lincoln Highway in Lincoln Park, San Francisco.

We are two senior citizens seeking a means of sustaining our passion for the road.

We found a vehicle that has the promise of motorcycling thrills and adventure with the stability and safety of a car. The three wheel Piaggio MP3 500, with two independent tilting front wheels, offers a promise of power, performance, and riding stability that will allow us to keep on going.
