Day 1-14 Google Photo & Progress Maps Are Live!

TWO full Google Map Maps are now live:

1) No Age Limit: The Piaggio MP3 Lincoln Highway Ride 2008 Progress Map
2) No Age Limit: The Piaggio MP3 Lincoln Highway Ride 2008 Photo Map

The Progress Map - updated several times per day - displays routing, lunch & gas stops, and Buddy & Bob’s location through a combination of road reports and GPS data from the TomTom unit mounted on their Piaggio MP3s.

The Photo Map - updated once per day - displays the precise location at which Buddy & Bob have taken so many amazing pictures, also viewable in the Gallery section.

Enjoy!

Day 14: Next Stop? North Platte, Nebraska

Our riders will be departing Sterling, CO for North Platte, NE any second. More to follow, pending Buddy & Bob’s first lunch stop and call. Or coffee stop, whichever comes first. Given yesterday’s 100+ temperatures out on the Plains, Piaggio Ground Control predicts the first stop will be for ice. Or iced coffee.

Day 13 - Denver/Aurora, CO to Sterling, CO

Our route for the day called for re-engaging with the Lincoln Highway in Bennett, CO and then onto Fort Morgan and our final destination, Sterling, CO. Of the thirteen Lincoln Highway states, Colorado is the most limited on its designations. Our early research provided us with a list of towns to follow, many of which are now connected by newer secondary roads.

Brother-in-law Steven was heading back to Prescott, AZ, but before bidding us farewell I noticed him looking at the MP3s…his head cocked, scratching his hands and stubbled beard, seeming to wonder if all his 1200cc’s were indeed necessary.

Day 13: Riders Arrive Safely In Sterling

Buddy & Bob are safe and sound in Sterling, CO. Their raw Day 13 road report will be posted first thing in the morning, the GPS verified and photo-mapped version by lunch.

Day 13: Riders Lunch In Brush, CO 1200hr MT

Buddy & Bob, having left Aurora, CO this morning @ 0845hr MT, have just finished lunch @ The Lunchbox Cafe in Brush, CO. Despite their statements yesterday about not wanting to get their MP3’s dirty, a Herculean effort to follow the original Lincoln Highway led to a complex morning route via Interstate, local highways, roads and our riders’ new best friend…gravel. More to follow upon their arrival tonight in Sterling, CO.

Day 12: Buddy & Bob’s Road Report - Fort Collins to Denver, CO

Leaving Fort Collins and heading to the Piaggio dealer in a Denver suburb, our first stop was MotoHaus Coffee, a favorite of area motorcyclists. We met the proprietor, Max Mackey, a true bike enthusiast who was excited about our journey and the MP3 500. After teaching Max how to scoop a bagel, we broke away from his hospitality, knowing we had a 12:00 arrival time at Fay Myers, one of the largest scooter and motorcycle dealers in the country.

Day 12: Riders Overnight in Aurora, CO

The increasingly popular Buddy & Bob, having spent the day doing interviews at Fay Myers’ Motorcycle World in Denver, CO, are now taking it easy at — as their wisdom is well-known — a Holiday Inn Express in Aurora, CO. Given how much attention they and their Piaggios are getting, we won’t say precisely where that is, of course.

Luckily, Bob is 90%+ recovered from his cold, and both he and Buddy are excited about tomorrow’s morning ride to Sterling, CO. Although eager to get back on the Lincoln Highway, the riders seemed reluctant to take their newly washed and serviced MP3s - gleaming since their visit today to Fay Myers’ Piaggio dealership - back onto the dirt and gravel that has made up so much of America’s first transcontinental highway…so far.

Standby for their full Day 12 Road Report…tomorrow morning. The raw report will go up first thing, pictures and maps will follow.
